About The Amgen Tour

The 2010 Amgen Tour of California is a Tour de France-style cycling road race. It is the largest cycling event in America. It challenges the world’s top professional cyclists to compete along a demanding course. The race will be in 8 stages from May 16 to May 23rd. The First Stage will be from Nevada City thru Old Town Auburn and ends at the Sacramento State Capitol building. This first stage will begin with the first-ever visit to the picturesque town of Nevada City, Calif., which will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Nevada City Classic, in which many notable riders got their start. From there the race will head south en route to Sacramento, and will travel through Grass Valley and Old Town in Auburn. Heading out of Auburn, the cyclists will cross over the Auburn-Foresthill Bridge - the tallest bridge in California and the third highest in the U.S. A mostly downhill stage, which will certainly favor the sprinters, will be abruptly interrupted by a grueling climb from the American River to the town of Cool. Sacramento streets will once again see the teams finish with three blistering fast circuits around the State's Capitol building.

About Old Town Auburn:
Historic Old Town Auburn is a small, quaint town still reminiscent of the 49er gold rush era when it was established. Old Town is located in just about 2 square blocks, at the base of the historic Placer County Courthouse, right at the northbound Maple offramp of the I-80. Various streets around the center of Auburn will be closed to vehicle traffic, but there will be nearby parking lots and side streets, with shuttle service to the best viewing areas. There will be a few bleachers in Old Town directly in front of the very nasty hairpin turn at the bottom of Lincoln Way. Old Town is planning on having a few Jumbo-size Screens for viewing most of the race. So stick around, have breakfast or lunch, and enjoy the Amgen from quaint Old Town Auburn.
