St. Patrick's Day Parade
March 17, 2018
Old Town is also the place to be if you want to take in Auburn's St. Patrick's Day Parade. The parade begins at 5:17 p.m. Saturday in front of the Gold Rush Museum in Downtown Auburn on Lincoln Way and travels down city streets to Old Town Auburn.
Parade organizers warn that a hard rain could lead to a parade cancellation, but are hopeful that won't happen. The parade hasn't been cancelled due to weather for the last 42 years.
Did you know? St. Patrick’s Day had its start as a religious holiday in Ireland, an observance of the anniversary of day of St. Patrick’s death. Later, Irish Americans would take to the streets to parade in celebration of their cultural heritage.
While cultural traditions associated with St. Patrick’s Day are still prevalent across the country, the celebration has branched out to include all Americans, Irish and otherwise.
