Taste of Chocolate Event Benefits Auburn Women and Girls

Old Town Auburn’s Taste of Chocolate event is a beloved ode to everyone’s favorite confection. Each February, chocoholics flock to Auburn’s historic district to taste their way through decadent, mouth-watering bites of rich cocoa bliss.

But this annual tradition is more than just a hedonistic delight: it’s a fundraiser benefiting women and girls throughout Placer County.

A Taste of Chocolate Supports Women and Girls in Auburn

Old Town Auburn partners with the Auburn branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to bring this delightful event to life every year.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a nonprofit organization that advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.

Money generated from AAUW fundraising is used to fund educational scholarships for women and girls in the local area.

The Auburn chapter of the AAUW raises money for:

When you participate in the Taste of Chocolate event, you’re participating in a fundraising effort that can help more local women and girls go to college, or make STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) fields more exciting and accessible for middle school girls.

Taste of Chocolate originated as a small event held in Downtown Auburn in the early 2000s. In 2005, after Old Town Auburn suffered from a major fire, business owner Linda Robinson campaigned to bring the Taste of Chocolate event to Old Town.

“I thought it might be a good idea to bring it to Old Town in a way to generate some good will and do something uplifting after that fire,” said Robinson, owner of Sun River Clothing Co. AAUW agreed to partner with Old Town and the rest, as they say, is history.

“It’s been a great partnership and a funding stream for their scholarship program which creates so many opportunities for women and young girls.”
